Obituary of John Van Craig Jr.
John Van Craig, Jr. of Palmetto, FL died in an automobile accident on
October 11, 2021. He was born on April 22, 1945 in Chattanooga, TN to
John V, Craig, Sr and Marie T. Craig. He grew up in Lafayette, GA and
graduated from Lafayette High School in 1963. The family moved to
Holmes Beach in 1963. He graduated from Manatee Community College
and entered the US Army where he served in Germany. When his Army
service was completed he moved to Palmetto and worked in the
phosphate business for many years. He retired from Cargill in 2005.
He was a licensed pilot and certified scuba diver. He is survived by his
sister, Celia Craig Petters (husband Darryl Petters) of Tampa. Other
relatives are cousins Bettye Bozza and Buddy Kamin of Chattanooga,
Lillian and Jimmy Curley of Nashville, Bill Hassler of Houston, Pat and
Betty McCord of Cedar Bluff, AL, as well other cousins.
A memorial service will be on November 18, 2021 at 2 PM at First United
Methodist Church in Bradenton.
